James A. Field, a founding member of the firm and partner in charge of the real estate tax group. Mr. Field has significant experience in Real Estate Tax Appeals. Throughout his career, Mr. Field has handled tax appeals for numerous high profile commercial and industrial properties, apartment buildings, cooperatives and premier condominiums. Mr. Field has represented hundreds of condominiums ranging from large associations, such as The John Hancock Building, Lake Point Tower, The Bristol and 2626 Lakeview, to numerous small associations and loft buildings. Mr. Field has represented condominium developments both prior to conversion and after conversion and, thus, is aware of the real estate tax issues confronting new associations. He has represented taxpayers at the Assessor's Office, the Board of Review, State of Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board and in Circuit Court.
Mr. Field also has substantial expertise in the area of complex real estate transactions. Mr. Field has structured numerous real estate transactions for developers and institutional lenders, ranging from shopping centers and office buildings to residential complexes.
Admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, Mr. Field received his Juris Doctor degree from Emory University School of Law and his L.L.M. in real estate with honors from the John Marshall School of Law. He is also a graduate of Indiana University School of Business.
Mr. Field is a member of the Chicago Bar Association Committees on Real Estate Taxation and Real Property, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association – Committee on Taxation.
Mr. Field is a frequent lecturer at the Chicago Bar Association, the John Marshall Law School, Lorman Educational Services and at a multitude of financial institutions and law firms.
